What you need
· A web browser on a computer.
· Access to ChatGPT with permission to add plugins or connectors.
· Your GoCodes username and password.
· The GoCodes server address: https://mcp.gocodes.com/mcp

Set up the GoCodes connection
1 Open ChatGPT settings
Go to chatgpt.com and sign in. Select your profile at the lower-left corner, then select Settings.
2 Turn on Developer mode
In Settings, select Plugins. Scroll to Developer mode and turn it on. This allows you to add the GoCodes MCP server.
3 Open Plugin Management
While still in Plugins, select Browse Plugins. On the Plugins page, select the plus (+) button next to the search box to add a new plugin.

If your screen says “Connector” or “App” The wording can vary by ChatGPT version. Choose the option that lets you enter a custom MCP server URL. |

4 Confirm the details and create the connection
Check the confirmation box near the bottom of the New Plugin window. Review the information, then select Create.
5 Sign in to GoCodes
When the Add GoCodes to ChatGPT window appears, select Sign in with GoCodes. Enter your GoCodes credentials if asked, then approve the connection.
6 Confirm installation
Wait for the green “GoCodes is installed” message. You can then close the authorization window.
7 Check that GoCodes actions are available
Open Settings, select Plugins, and choose GoCodes. Scroll to Actions. If actions do not appear, select Refresh. Keep low-risk actions allowed if your organization permits it.
Security note Only enable permissions you are comfortable using. ChatGPT may ask you to approve an action before it reads or changes GoCodes data.
Use GoCodes in a ChatGPT conversation
8 Start a new chat and select GoCodes
Start a new chat. Open the source or plugin selector near the message box and choose GoCodes. A check mark confirms that it is active for the conversation.
Useful questions to try
· List my assets.
· Which asset is due for maintenance next?
· Show details for asset [asset ID].
· Which assets are currently checked out?
· List assets at [location].
Start with read-only requests For your first test, ask ChatGPT to list or find information. After you are comfortable, you can use any update actions that your GoCodes connection and permissions support. |
Troubleshooting
I cannot see Developer mode
Your ChatGPT plan or organization may restrict custom MCP connections. Ask your ChatGPT administrator to enable this feature.
The Create button is unavailable
Check that the server URL is exactly https://mcp.gocodes.com/mcp, Authentication is OAuth, and the confirmation box is selected.
Sign-in fails or returns to ChatGPT
Close the window and try again. Make sure pop-ups are allowed and that you can sign in to your GoCodes account in the same browser.
GoCodes appears, but no actions are listed
Open Settings > Plugins > GoCodes and select Refresh in the Actions section. If actions still do not appear, remove and reconnect GoCodes or contact GoCodes support.
ChatGPT does not use GoCodes
In the current chat, open the source/plugin selector and make sure GoCodes has a check mark. Then try “list my assets” again.
You are ready
When “list my assets” returns information from your GoCodes account, setup is complete. In future chats, select GoCodes whenever you want ChatGPT to work with your GoCodes data.
